The Art

What is Taekwondo?

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art famous the world over for its fast, powerful kicks and precise techniques. The word literally means "the way of the foot and fist" — but it is far more than fighting. It is a complete system that develops your body, mind and character.

Millions practise it for fitness, self-defence, sport and personal growth. As an Olympic sport, it combines explosive athleticism with deep traditional values — making it one of the best all-round martial arts for kids and adults alike.

The Five Tenets of Taekwondo

The moral backbone of every class. We don't just teach kicks — we live these values on the mat and off it.

01예의 · Ye-ui

Courtesy

Respect for instructors, parents & fellow students — bowing, listening, good manners.

02염치 · Yom-chi

Integrity

Knowing right from wrong and the honesty to stand by it, in training and in life.

03인내 · In-nae

Perseverance

Sticking with a technique — or a goal — until you master it, however many tries it takes.

04극기 · Guk-gi

Self-Control

Mastering your temper and your power. A true martial artist knows when not to fight.

05백절불굴

Indomitable Spirit

The courage to stand up for what is right and never give up, against any odds.
