This is not a page about fear. It's a page about preparedness — and it's exactly why we train the way we train.
Self defence is the art of not getting hurt.
It is not a martial art and not a sport. There are no referees, no weight classes, no rounds, no medals and no belts. It is a complete personal-safety system: awareness, avoidance, de-escalation, physical response as a last resort — and knowing your legal rights after.
At Om's, we don't teach you to "win fights". We teach you to create a 2-second window and escape. Every class is built on one simple hierarchy:
The 5 Layers of Safety
Most institutes teach only Layer 4 (physical). We teach all five — because the outer layers stop you from ever needing the inner ones.
Situational Awareness
Actively scanning your environment, spotting exits, trusting your instinct, ditching phone-zombie mode. The #1 self-defence skill. Master it →
Avoidance & Prevention
Route planning, live-location sharing, safe transport habits, home & digital hygiene. The fight you skip is the fight you win.
De-escalation & Verbal Defence
Calm voice, ego management, distance, giving the aggressor an exit, drawing public attention. The most underrated skill. Learn it →
Physical Defence
Simple, gross-motor strikes to vulnerable targets + escapes from grabs, chokes and bear hugs. Strike hard, create the window, RUN. See the 10 techniques →
Legal & Post-Incident Response
112/181, preserving evidence, FIR rights, medical & psychological support. Your rights under BNS 2026 & POSH. Know your rights →
The Color Code of Awareness
Colonel Jeff Cooper's readiness system, used by military and self-defence schools worldwide. We rewire your default state in class.
Unaware
Phone in hand, headphones on, oblivious.
NEVERRelaxed Alert
Calm, attentive, noticing people & exits.
ALWAYSFocused Alert
Something feels wrong. A plan forms.
WHEN IT FEELS OFFAction
Threat confirmed. Escape, de-escalate or defend.
WHEN IT'S REALOverwhelmed
Freeze & panic. Cognitive shutdown.
TRAINING PREVENTS THISWhat You Will Train (MMA-Informed)
Sport techniques fail under adrenaline. So we borrow what actually works from MMA — boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling and BJJ — and strip it down to simple, gross-motor survival skills.
Striking That Works Under Adrenaline
Palm-heel, elbows, knees, front kick, eye strike (extreme threat only) — boxing & Muay Thai basics, drilled on pads until automatic.
The 5 strikes → MMA striking →Escapes & Releases
Wrist grabs, bear hugs (arms free & pinned), front chokes, hair grabs — leverage over strength, so size never matters.
Every common hold & escape →Ground Survival (BJJ-Based)
The street is not the mat. Protect your head, frame, shrimp, technical stand-up — the goal is always: get up and get away.
Why the ground game matters →Clinch, Control & Takedown Defence
Wrestling-based balance, base and sprawl so you stay on your feet — because on the street, the ground can mean multiple attackers.
Takedown defence basics →Scenario & Stress Training
Surprise grabs, noise, confined spaces (lift, bus, corridor), multiple "attackers", low light — stress inoculation so you don't freeze.
What sport training misses →Verbal Defence, Law & Tools
De-escalation drills, BNS private-defence rights, proportionality, and what's legal to carry — pepper spray, alarms, improvised tools.
Legal tools guide →The 5 Street Rules of Every Technique
Under adrenaline (160+ bpm), complex moves fail. So every technique we teach passes these five tests.
Simple
Gross-motor movements. No complex coordination.
Direct
Straight lines. No spinning, no jumping.
Targeted
Eyes, throat, groin, knees, instep — the great equalizers.
Committed
Full force. No pulling, no "controlling".
Followed by Escape
Strike → create space → RUN. Always.
Real Situations We Train For
Not theoretical. These are the exact scenarios drilled on the mat — from Jaipur's streets, buses, lifts and parking lots.
Wrist Grabs
Rotate to the thumb — the weakest link of any grip — and go.
Bear Hugs
Drop hips, stomp instep, elbow the jaw. Arms free or pinned.
Front Chokes
Unconscious in 5–10 sec — tuck, turn, strike, rip, RUN.
Hair Grabs
Pin the attacker's hand, turn, strike, break free.
Ground Attacks
Protect head, frame, technical stand-up — get up & get away.
Multiple Attackers
Positioning, movement, and the discipline to leave early.
Weapon Threats
No Hollywood disarms. RUN, use barriers — bag, chair, umbrella.
Stalking & Digital Threats
Eve-teasing, cab safety, cyberstalking, sextortion — respond right.

Know Your Rights — The Law Stands With You
Self defence in India is not an excuse you raise in court. It is a right that makes your act no offence at all.
⚖️ BNS 2026 — Right of Private Defence
Section 34: Nothing is an offence which is done in the exercise of the right of private defence.
Section 36: Force must be proportionate — no more harm than necessary.
Section 37: Right extends to causing death in extreme threats (rape, acid attack, kidnapping, grievous hurt).
POSH Act 2013 · DV Act 2005: Workplace & home protections for women.

Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we get every single day — answered honestly.
Yes. Self defence uses leverage, targeting and surprise — not strength. A palm-heel to the nose or a knee to the groin works regardless of your size. We've trained women from 16 to 65, complete beginners included.
No. Those are sports with rules; self defence is a survival system — awareness, de-escalation, legal rights plus physical skills. We use MMA-tested striking and grappling because they work under adrenaline, but the goal is always escape, not points. Read the full difference →
Yes — 2 sessions/week, 75 minutes each, female coach available, in a safe and supportive environment. Free trial class, and group discounts for 3+ enrollments. Read the women's guide →
From 7 years kids learn awareness, "No–Go–Tell", stranger safety and basic wrist-grab escapes. Physical strikes are taught from 13+, strictly as a last resort. Parents' complete guide →
Yes, pepper spray is legal for personal use. A charged phone, a 130 dB personal alarm/whistle and everyday items (keys, bag, umbrella) are your best toolkit. Full legal tools guide →
No — and be careful of anyone who promises to. Knife disarms are extremely dangerous even for professionals. We teach the honest response: run, use barriers (bag, chair, umbrella), and only as a last resort, fight to create an escape window. See the honest technique list →
Freezing is a biological response, not weakness. Our scenario drills and stress inoculation (surprise grabs, noise, multiple "attackers") train your body to act automatically, so you move instead of freeze.
Most students can execute the core strikes and escapes within a few weeks of regular training, and complete the full scenario progression in about 90 days. Skills degrade — so we recommend a refresher every 6 months.
No. The first three layers we teach are awareness, avoidance and de-escalation. Students learn that physical force is the last resort — training builds composure and confidence, not aggression. Myth #debunked here →
